Before you ring a stranger
You're about to call someone you haven't met. This page says what we've actually checked, and what we haven't.
What we check
Identity, if they choose it
The check is a government photo ID through Stripe Identity. We keep the result, not a copy of the document. It's optional, so someone without it can still be listed.
An ABN, as a number
If they add one, we check that it's eleven digits and that the check digits pass. We don't look it up on the Australian Business Register, and we don't confirm the business is active or that the name matches.
What we don't check
Licences, insurance and the job
We don't check licences, insurance or council permits, or the quality of the work, so ask for a licence number and proof of insurance, and get a written quote, before work starts. The price on the listing is a guide. Confirm it when you ring.
The money
We don't take payment for the job, and we don't hold a deposit. You pay them directly. Availability is whatever they set themselves.
What a badge means
An identity badge means a photo ID check was recorded. It isn't a recommendation, and it isn't for sale. A paid plan changes how many listings they can publish. It doesn't buy a badge.
An ABN badge means we accepted the number they typed. It doesn't mean the register confirmed it. No badge means they haven't done that check. They can still be listed.
Reviews
A review is tied to a job recorded on WorkLink. Most profiles say “No reviews yet”, because the job isn't booked here. We don't write reviews. A tradesperson can reply to one, but they can't edit it. If a review breaks the rules, we look at it.
If something feels wrong
Report the listing or the profile. We read every report. A safety issue is treated the same day. Anything else is usually answered within one business day.
